More Space for the Family Room

Location

Smaller Southern California Family Room floor plans and huge wall cabinets with big screen TV's are NOT a perfect match. On this makeover our goal was to make the room seem larger.

HOME THEATER TECH SOLUTION:

Flat Plasma TV hung on the wall with no visible wires.

Small and great sounding speakers blend in with decor.

Equipment hidden inside retrofitted furniture

All in one remote allows one-touch operation for turning on the system even though the furniture doors are closed in front of the equipment.

Rear surround speakers are hidden inside ceiling

Patio speakers are mounted facing the backyard with no visible wires

PROJECT CHALLENGE
Out with the old and in with new. John had a large wall cabinet that housed his beloved big screen TV. However as you can see by looking at the picture, it forced he and his wife, Carol, to sit really close to the TV. Also the room wasn't very inviting to their family and friends because the cabinet with the TV took up alot of space.
A flat plasma TV was definitely an obvious choice in helping up clear up the clutter in the room. But what was more challenging was Carol's request of not doing the typical look of a TV stand to hold the stereo equipment. Looking around in the formal living room I saw a great furniture piece that would work great in the family room. However once I measured the depth of the inside I realized that it was too small to fit the stereo equipment. But with steady hands and a sharp saw we were able to open up the back of the furniture without any damage. The final project came out beautifully and we left with another satisfied family.

LESSONS
A TV room doesn't have to look like a TV room with the right creativity.
